Forbes Burton held their third ‘networking with a twist’ event recently, with Millfields in Grimsby hosting a ‘Beat the Bomb’ event.
Several teams of local businesspeople tackled luggage jam-packed full of cryptic clues. The ultimate goal being to defuse the prop bomb in the middle of the room and take home the grand prize.
The escape-room-esque task was a perfect way to uncover the strengths and skills of the different members of each team. Set up by Red Herring Games, the task threw several different obstacles in the way of participants trying to crack the code required to win.
The winning team not only managed to defuse the bomb with twenty minutes to spare, but they also did their part by removing several cans and bottles of highly flammable drinks from the prize table afterwards.
Networking events that “forge genuine relationships”
The event followed two other popular events that blurred the lines between an interactive gameshow and networking event. Founder and Managing Director, Rick Smith has been keen to make networking events more fun after attending one in a museum once. “The museum was a fantastic venue, with so much to look at and engage with, but the attendees were all disappointed when we were herded into a nondescript room at the back of the building with no scope for exploring.
“We try to ensure that our networking events are memorable and help attendees to forge genuine relationships with others. This event was a great way to get teams working together and thinking outside of the box in a bid to be first to crack the code.
“Networking events can sometimes strike fear into less outgoing guests, but the addition of team games naturally loosens everybody up. Let’s face it, after working together to disarm a bomb, networking seems an absolute breeze.”
Indeed, there was still plenty of time before and after the game to mingle with businesspeople from the local area, and the event was a great success.
Don’t miss the next one!
Next time around, our ‘networking with a twist’ event returns to Hull, where it will take a different form again, to outfox and challenge a whole new set of attendees. Keep your eyes peeled for details of the event scheduled for later this year, and follow Forbes Burton on LinkedIn for updates closer to the time.
“It’s a fantastic afternoon, and a great way to meet like-minded individuals in the area” says Smith. “Anyone that hasn’t yet been to one of the events is recommended to come along to the next one to see what the fuss is all about. It certainly beats making small talk over biscuits and watery coffee”.
